The Best Weight Loss Memes

meme about memesI am a big fan of memes. I don’t know how to pronounce the word correctly but there’s something about the ability to capture a complex idea in a well written but brief statement packaged together with an interesting graphic. For those of you who do not know what a meme is, according to Webster it is an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture. In the context of the internet age, the term commonly (according to wikipedia) refers to  an activity, concept, catchphrase or piece of media which spreads, often as mimicry, from person to person via the Internet. Memes often take the shape of a photos with added dialogue or a fancy piece of text conveying an idea with good graphic design. The official definition isn’t that important; you’ll get the ideas from the examples I bring. I have been scouring the googlescape to find you the best weight loss memes. Hopefully their quaint wisdom will help you on your weight loss journey or at the very least, brighten your day.

I don’t make the rules. This is true on so many levels but with my patients, it’s especially true. I will often counsel people on weight loss and they’ll try to bargain with me. As an example, I told a patient that if she really wanted to lose weight she had to cut out sugar and flour and start exercising regularly. She looked down and tried to get me to lighten the sentence. “No sugar, really?” she said, “Do I have to?”  I responded with an important truth. I don’t make the rules, I just report them. If it were up to me, I’d let you cheat all the time, but unforturnately, I don’t make the rules. So if you think you can trick your body into not counting the calories, read the following meme:memes4

In other words, if you are keeping track of your intake and you think you can cheat, your body will not comply.

Even though I don’t make the rules, the rules are not unforgiving. Time is on your side. If you persist and keep to your diet and exercise plan most of the time, it will work out in the long run.memes3

I’ve never met anyone who has maintained long term success quickly. I promise, if you’re persistent you’ll lose the weight. Not only that, you’ll lose it much faster than you gained it. Just remember it took you a long time to gain it. For those of you who don’t feel like its coming of fast enough. The meme below is for you.

It’s not easy. The reason you have to be persistent is because your body does not want to do what is necessary to be healthy.  Your body wants to sit on the couch binge watching on Netflix and eating ice cream right out of the carton.  The meme below is the reason why the meme above is so important.

Even though it’s hard, it’s not as hard as you think. You can do it, you just have to start. Fortunately, you don’t have to be great to start.images (5)

I often see super health nuts looking at pizza or hamburgers, crinkling their nose and saying their disgusted by all the fat and unhealthiness. I think they’re full of it. The reason we eat the unhealthy food in such catastrophic quantities in this country is that it tastes good. It tastes really really good. I think to deny that is to lie to yourself and if you’re starting the process with dishonesty, you’re in trouble. Acknowledge that the food tastes amazing but then avoid it anyways because you want to be healthy more than you want to eat good tasting food.

You can’t avoid doing the work. If you look closely you’ll find that the vast majority of weight loss systems out there emphasize how easy their program is. The quick fix sells. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work. The reason it sells is because we all delude ourselves deep down into thinking that the Hollywood illusion of quick and easy weight loss is a reality. Because we believe their nonsense we expect the unrealistic.
